Play Blues Guitar And Unleash Your Emotions
Every form of music always has its roots and when you look at a lot of the famous guitar players of today like John Mayer or Derek Trucks you are reminded that for many rock guitarists their roots come directly from blues guitar.
The history of blues guitar is one of a form of guitar playing that was developed and allowed to evolve in the poor parts of the Southern United States and by the 1930’s and 1940′z blues guitar was everywhere in the United States and by the 1950’s it had made it way to Europe to help inspire the British Invasion that brought us the Beatles who were a very blues guitar based band.
But why do some people pick up blues guitar over other kinds of guitar playing like classical guitar or flamenco guitar? Sometimes it is just their heritage that calls them to play some types of guitar but in most cases it is a common bond with the music that draws people to blues guitar.
If you are unable to convey any emotion when you play the guitar then you certainly will not be very successful at blues guitar. Many players choose blues guitar because it allows a player to just let go and unleash their emotions. You don’t even need to know how to tune the guitar or play it right in order to be successful at blues guitar! Chuck Berry is rarely in tune and usually plays half of his notes off key but the feeling is there and the emotion of what he is playing always comes across.
Very few guitar playing methods lend themselves to such emotional expression and playing the blues. When a guitar player is making his guitar scream he is playing the blues or when he is making it cry he is still playing the blues. But no matter how you look at it the blues is all about emotion.
Can Never Play It The Same Way Twice
After a blues performance many guitarists will be asked about a particular part they played during their set that seemed to be special to the player and many times the player does not remember ever playing that part during the course of the night. You get lost in the music when you play the blues and if you sit down to analyze it and try and recreate what you did from night to night then you would miss out on something new in the nights to come. Just let it flow and let it come to you and if it was meant to get out it will.
Playing blues guitar is a commitment to showing everyone what you are feeling at that moment and if it is done right then everyone will get it whether they are feeling that emotion or not. They may not be feeling what you are feeling but they can absolutely tell that it is running through you like a huge wave of emotion.
